Mumbai : Amid the deadlock between Shiv Sena and ally BJP over government formation, Shiv Sena has hinted alternative strategy saying, it doesn’t consider the grand old party to be an enemy.
Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan was more forthcoming on the plan saying, given the BJP-Shiv Sena breakdown, the party might think of tie-up with or supporting Shiv Sena from outside. Asked about compatibility with Shiv Sena’s saffronism, Chavan said the main aim is to keep BJP out.
Congress High Command had earlier ruled out any alignment with Shiv Sena. Chavan hopes to persuade the central leadership to soften the stand,
BJP won 105 seats in 21 Oct polls, while its ally Shiv Sena bagged 56 seats. The majority mark in the 288-member Assembly is 145. Post election results on 24 Oct, both parties have been at loggerheads over the chief minister’s post, resulting in a stalemate over govt formation.
Meanwhile the BJP core committee will meet on Sunday to discuss the invitation by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshhyari , to prove the party’s majority in the Assembly, by Monday.
Earlier Devendra Fadnavis had resigned on Friday as CM, blaming Shiv Sena for rebuffing all attempts to form a coalition govt in the state.
