New Delhi : Ranging from routine terms like ‘ashamed’, ‘abused’, ‘betrayed’, ‘corrupt’, ‘drama’,   to creative coinages like ‘Covid spreader’,  ‘baal buddhi(retard)’, ‘Shakuni’, ‘Khalistani’ and so forth will henceforth be considered unparliamentary in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha Secretariat realised its latest compilation  listing unparliamentary words and expressions.

The book titled “Unparliamentary Words 2021” will provide ready reference on what can be spoken and what's forbidden. However, the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha Speaker will have the last word in expunging words and expressions.

The book also states that some words may not appear unparliamentary unless read together with other expressions to mean a certain way.

The new book contains references to words declared unparliamentary in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State legislatures of India during 2021 and also those banned in commonwealth Parliaments in 2020.

Incidentally, the booklet comes closely ahead of the Monsoon session of the Parliament beginning 18 July. The Opposition reacted saying the govt was trying to stifle MPs.
