New Delhi :India recorded the biggest single-day jump in total infections in over five months - 53,476 cases - with Maharashtra and Gujarat in the lead. Amid growing concerns of second wave gripping the country, the govt yesterday informed there were ‘double mutant variant’ of coronavirus detected in 18 states in addition to the many other strains or variants of concerns(VOCs).
The spike in last 24 hours is a 13 percent jump from fresh case numbers of Wednesday. Maharashtra recorded spike of 31,855 raising its confirmed cases so far to 25,64,881 and Gujarat with 1790 fresh infections saw its caseload up to now rising to 2,92,169.
More than 1.12 crore people have recovered around the country so far. There remains 3,95,792 active cases as of now. 1.6 lakh people have died from the virus so far. There were 251 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.
