New Delhi: An SBI study forecast third wave to hit the country to begin by August The report titled “Covid-19, The Race To Finishing Line” published by State Bank of India(SBI) research estimates the wave to peak in September, the quantum of which is expected to be 1.7 times the peak of second wave. Incidentally, the SBI prediction for 2nd wave peaking in third week of May has been more or less correct.
The report also states vaccination as the only savior. Currently only 4.6 percent of India population is fully vaccinated while 20.8 percent have received one dose - figures that are far less compared to countries including the US(47.1%), the UK(48.7%), Israel(59.8%), Spain(38.5%), France(31.2%) among others.
Deaths cross 4.03 lakhs
The country reported 39.796 new infections and 723 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total cases since the outbreak to 3.06 cr and deaths to over 4.03 lakhs. 42,352 recoveries were reported in the past 1 day and those under treatment currently numbered 4.82 lakhs. A total of 35.29 crore people have been vaccinated so far. 36.97 crore vaccine doses have been distributed to states of which 34.96 have been utilized to-date.
