Kolkata : Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta passed away at his residence Thursday morning. He was 83.
The leader was being treated for heart related ailments for quite some time.
Dasgupta was Rajya Sabha member in 1985 and was elected as General Secretary to All India Trade Union Congress(AITUC) in 2001.
In 2004, Dasgupta was elected to 14th Lok Sabha in 2004 from Bengal's Panskura constituency. In the next elections, he won Ghatal constituency in 2009 to join the 15 Lok Sabha.
Dasgupta successfully presented several significant issues during his stint as parliamentarian.
The leader is survived by wife Jaysree Dasgupta.
