Hathras: CPI(M) and CPI leaders  met and expressed solidarity with the bereaved Dalit family in UP’s Hathras, whose deceased 19-year-old daughter was brutalized and gangraped and left to die.  The Left will stand steadfast by the family, senior leaders who visited their home assured. There should be judicial probe for justice to the victim and her family, said CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.

Visiting leaders from the Left included Politburo member Brinda Karat, UP State Scretary Heeralal Yadav, CPI General Secretary D Raja, national secretary Amrjith Kaur, State secretary Sharma. The leaders reached the victim’s house  in Hathras’s Bulgadi village  and spend nearly an hour with her family members, where those also condoled the dalit girl’s parents and siblings.

The incident is not a matter of UP’s Hathras alone. Rather, it is one that arouses grave concerns for rest of the country, the leaders said. It is daughter of India that faced the horrifying ordeal.  Constitutional rights stand deprived. Developments in the aftermath have no parallels in the 21st century. Authorities burnt the victim’s body at midnight without family knowing or their consent. It is an unpardonable act. And, to divert public attention away from such outrageous  doing, the UP government and Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi are deliberately delaying the legal proceedings in the matter. Such occurrences are simply unacceptable. A judicial probe should be ordered to prevent such happenings from repeating again and bring those guilty before the law. Also a speedy trial is essential to do justice in the case, the leaders said.
