New Delhi : The cyber experts who examined mobile phone for confirming use of Pegasus have testified their findings in the Supreme Court. Two cyber experts from the security division affirmed to court the presence of the spyware in devices tested by them. The mobiles in question belonged to persons who lodged complaint with the apex cout, on government’s snooping into their phones, infringing their right to privacy among other things.
Seven complainants had their mobiles processed by experts to find truth behind claims in global media reports. Of 6 android phones examined, four held traces of Pegasus and two of its derivatives. These tests were conducted using reliable forensic methodology following which, the mobile users approached Supreme court.
The experts’ testimony, from committee constituted for the purpose, came on demand from the petitioners. The New York Times recently in its report said Indian government indeed purchased the Pegasus spyware from an Israeli firm.
