Death Toll in Delhi Violence Climbs to 2 : CAA Protests

NEW DELHI :  A protester died from gunshot wounds in the violence over CAA in Delhi,  taking the death toll to two since fresh violence erupted today. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hoor Khan.

According to reports, police and pro-CAA groups launched attacks on anti-CAA protesters Maujpur. Following serious injuries to head from stone throwing, a police head constable, Ratab Kakm  had died earlier in the day. He was posted with Gokulpuri Police Station. Sahadra DCP was also critically wounded in stone-pelting.

 

Following the violence, 8 battalions of CRPC were deployed across north eastern areas of Delhi, including a Company of rapid action women members. Metro stations have  been shut at Udyog Bhavan, Patel Chowk, Sentral Saecretariat, and Janpath in the city.  Point to switch trains is facilitated at Central Secretariat. Five metro stations were shut earlier in the wake of  fresh violence. The metro closures are part of security arrangement for Trump’s visit to Delhi.

 

The protests against Citizenship Amendment Act in north eastern parts of Delhi were violent. Maujpur, close to Jafrabadh and Bhajanpur witnessed escalated violence on Monday. A group that perpetrated violence  torched vehicles parked outside a Petrol Pump , fire from which eventually spread into the Pump.  Several shops and houses were damaged in stone pelting. Members  of  the two conflicting groups were injured in the violence.

 

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in 10 violence-hit parts of the city.
