Death Toll in Maharashtra Exceeds 46,000; 30,548 New Covid Cases in 24 Hours

NEW DELHI: In Maharashtra, fatalities from novel coronavirus surpassed 46,000 – a rise of 30,548 infections in past 24 hours. On data elsewhere, Madhya Pradesh recorded over 3,000 covid in deaths, Haryana and Rajasthan over 2000 so far. Nationwide deaths figured over 1,30,500 up to now,  with 435 occurring in past 24 hours alone. Delhi reported  96 deaths yesterday,  UP – 18; Bengal – 54, Punjab – 30, Karnataka – 21, UP – 18 and Odisha – 17.

On deaths per lakh basis, 14 states figured above national average with Maharashra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the lead. There were 43,851 recoveries reported countrywide, in the past 24 hours. 4.65 lakh people are currently under treatment. A total of 82.49 lakh have been cured of the virus so far on national level.

Delhi Will Not Be Locked Down:
The capital city will not be locked down or subject to  other stringent curbs, said Health Minister Satyendra Javen. He was responding to reports that suggested Delhi heading for another complete lockdown. The city is currently on its third wave of the virus. It reported 3235 fresh cases on Sunday and 95 deaths during the day. Delhi was until recently, reporting daily cases exceeding 7000 for weeks.
