NEW DELHI: Logging double the number of fresh cases of covid on Tuesday than previous day, Delhi administration is eyeing greater curbs to fight off the third wave- the peak of which is believed to have passed. The govt on Wednesday announced slash in number of people allowed at weddings from 200 permitted as per national guidelines to previous limit of 50 persons. Over 4.95 lakh cases have been reported in the capital city so far.
There would not be another lockdown in any case, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said this afternoon. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said his govt has sought permission from centre to close for a few days markets that emerge as covid hotspots. “I would like to assure shopkeepers…they need not be scared. We want your shops to remain open. If needed, regulations will be increased in some markets- that’s all what we have requested from centre,” Sisodia had said.
On Tuesday, Delhi reported 6396 new cases as against 3797 on Monday. 99 fatalities the same day pushed death-toll to 7812 on Tuesday. Tests were scaled up to 49,031 from 30,000 on Tuesday and ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research) is helping to raise capacity to 60,000 tests by November-end.
