BHOPAL : A govt doctor and police officer were attacked in Madhya Pradesh as they tried to screen a farmer’s son for symptoms of Covid-19 . The doctor was largely unhurt however, the cop sustained head injuries.
The incident took place on Wednesday in Gaswani village in Sheopur district. The doctor, Dr Pawan Upadhyay, responded to a tip-off that a farmer’s son, Gopal, was sick in the village. However, the family rebuked his request to examine Gopal. The doctor then tripped to the police station and brought in Asst. Sub Inspector, Sriram Awasthi for help.
According to police, the farmer and his sons threw stones at the duo when they insisted on examining Gopal.
There have been random attacks on health professionals in the State since Covid outbreak, largely from mistrust among village folks of quarantine and isolation procedures and partly by the fear of the mysterious virus.
A case has been registered and the attackers face penalty between Rs 50,000 – Rs 2 lakh apart from jail term.
