Kolkata > Junior doctors in Bengal have resumed their strike, demanding a safe working environment in hospitals. They accused that the government failing to implement measures for workplace safety, leading them to stop services temporarily starting at 10 AM today.
Junior doctors had stop the services in protest following the brutal murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College. The strike was partially called off after discussions with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, the junior doctors have stated that they are resuming the strike due to the government's failure to uphold the assurances made during those discussions.
On September 21, the doctors partially resumed services after a 42-day continuous strike in protest against the rape and murder at R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital. The government has stated that time is needed to implement certain measures, including installing CCTV in hospitals and constructing restrooms.
