NEW DELHI :  Several members of CPI(M) have been picked by police from peaceful protests in BJP-ruled states and Delhi and jailed, said Politburo in a statement in the capital.
Given court vacation, the party men languish behind bars without being able to apply for bail, it added.

At least  69 CPI(M) workers remain in different jails, including Varanasi District Committee members. The party will organize protest at District centres in UP against the confinement on 30 Dec, the Politburo announced.

Much of the trouble in protests originate from police action, said the statement. Video footages released indicate police resorting to attacks and destroying properties. Worse, with no word on  compensations to families of police shootout victims, Yogi Adityanath govt is hurrying to extort moneys from protesters for damage to public properties.

Uttar Pradesh govt is actively trying to convert anti-CAA protests into communal riots saying Godra attacks would be repeated once again. Do not baited by these provocations, PB cautioned.

BJP is resorting to the propaganda that only Muslims are erupting in protests. Not true. The newly enacted law  is anti-constitutional and has drawn protesters from all religions and walks of life.  Of the 69 CPI(M) protesters placed under arrests presently, only 13 are Muslims. The rest of 56 belong to varied other communities.

Several party members have been arrested from Tripura’s Belonia and Udaypur. In Gujarat, at least 50 CPI(M) members including Core Committee member Arun Mehta, have been arrested.

The Indian Constitution allows its people to hold peaceful protests. The mass of Indian population will fight against heavy-handedness aimed at unseating fundamental rights.  The Indian constitution is the only respite for citizens of the country. And patriotism lies in protecting the text from the clutches of National Register of Citizens and Citizenship Amendment Act.

The Communist Party of India bears history of fighting the British rule in India. At the time, communists defied the British ban on the party and continued its struggle to crumble their colonial hold. History is abound with names of communists who laid their lives in their fight for peoples’ rights. Peaceful protests that steers clear of provocations, will continue, the Politburo  statement declared in conclusion.
