Draupadi Murmu Assumes Office, Becoming The Youngest President Of India

New Delhi : Following oath-taking ceremony Draupadi Murmu assumes the office of Indian President at Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Born in 1958 she is the youngest person and India's second woman to occupy the post.

The new president  was escorted by Vice-President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu.

Draupadi Murmu hails from a tribal community in Odisha’s Mayubjan district and made her way to politics by working for her people.  On the job front, Draupadi Murmu worked as an assistant professor at the Shri Aurobindo Intergral Education an Research Institute and also as a Junior Assistant at the Irrigation department of the Govt of Odisha.

She joined BJP in 1997 and was elected as councilor fo Rajrangpur Nagar Panchayat.  In 2000, she became the Chairperson of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and also served as National Vice President of the party’s Scheduled Tribes Morcha.
