Ernakulam Bound KSRTC Bus Collides With Lorry in Coimbatore; 20 Killed

COIMBATORE : 20 people were killed and several injured in a head-on collision between KSRTC bus and a lorry, at Avnashi in Coimbatore . The Volvo bus, which arrived from Bengaluru was bound for Ernakulam, when the accident took place early morning 3 pm.

 

Those identified among dead include Krish(29), Jhordan(35), Kirnkar(33), Igni Raphel(39) and Rostee(61), The lorry loaded with tiles is a Kerala registered vehicle.

 

The Volvo took off from Bengaluru last evening and carried passengers destined for Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam. 38 had reserved tickets to Ernakulam.

 

According to preliminary findings, a sudden bursting of lorry tyre lead to the crash. The truck with burst tyre rammed into

Bus, said sources. The accident spot being far fetched from the city and given pre-dawn timing, there was some delay in rescue operations. The initial rescue efforts came from locals around. Police and fire force personnel reached the site later.

 

A few among the injured remain in critical condition. The wounded are being treated at Avanashi govt hospital and Coimbatore District Hospital
