MUMBAI : BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavais was on Sunday elected Leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly. Congress MLA Nana Patole has been named the Speaker of the House.
Patole was elected unopposed after BJP’s Kisan Kathore dropped out of the race earlier.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Agadhi(MVA) on Thursday won the floor test in a 169-0 after BJP and its supporters staged a walkout before the voting began.
Fadnavis, 49, enters his fifth term as MLA while it is the fourth for Patole.
Fadnavis stepped into the state Assembly first in 1999 as MLA. In April 2012, the three-time MLA took became the BJP state chief. In October 2014, he rose to become the Chief Minister after BJP grabbed power in the state under his leadership.
