Leaking Data : Indian Navy Bans Use of Smartphones, Social Media at Bases , Warships

NEW DELHI : In the wake of navy men’s arrests for leaking sensitive data to enemies, the Indian Navy has banned its personnel from using social media or spartphones at naval bases, dockyards and onboard warships.

“All social networking platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other messengers from here on now ill not be allowed at the naval bases and ships,” said a senior Navy official on Monday.

In a  crackdown based on intelligence inpurs, the Andhra police arrested  seven Navy personnel who were caught leaking sensitive information to enemy intelligence agencies, including Pakistan, on social media.  The leaked data pertained to ships and submarines belonging to the navy.


Of the traitors, three sailors worked at the strategically important Eastern Naval Command of Visakhapattanam, three from Western Naval Command and one posted at Karwar navy base in Karnataka. All the men belong to the 2015 batch.
