Ahmedabad : The first flight carrying Indian Embassy personnel from Afghanistan touched down Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday. The airplane, C-17 Globe Star, arrived at Jamnagar airport in Gujarat.
Kabul became gripped with panic after Taliban ousted the government and took over the presidential palace in Kabul marking full takeover. Following this, people by tens of hundreds flocked to Kabul airport hoping to flee the nation, prompting authorities to suspend commercial flights and shut down the airport. The airport opened late last evening following which the evacuation of embassy personnel became possible.
As per reports, Indians in Afghanistan have been moved to a safe locations and those wishing to return will be flown to India in two days time. Emergency visa issuance will be carried out for the purpose, said the Union Home Ministry. U.S. troops remain in control of Kabul airport and authorities here contacted U.S. seeking to retrieve Indian citizens stranded in Afghanistan.
