Mallapally, PATHANAMTHITTA : Former Metropolitan of Nirnam Diocese of Malankara Jacobite Syriac Church, Dr.Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, lost fifteen lakh rupees to a fraudster who conned him online. Upon realisation, he lodged complaint with Keezhavaipur Police Station and the Cyber Cell.
In the scam, a man who identified himself as senor CBI officer called Mar Coorilos on 2nd of August and accused him of abetting money laundering for a Mumbai-based man named Naresh Goyal. The caller then sent forged documents to impress that an account in Mumbai held by Mar Coorilos was used for illegal financial transaction. The man made calls from two different numbers and demanded that a lumpsum be paid to hush the case, which Dr. Coorilos did.
