Government, A Failure in Manipur; Restore Peace At The Earliest: CPI(M)

New Delhi: Peace must be restored in Manipur as soon as possible,  demanded CPI(M) Polit Bureau.  The Manipur situation is worrisome. Several churches and temples are being attacked. The State BJP govt has failed. The State and Central government should initiate interventions to bring back law and order, said Polit Bureau in its statement, also demanding that an All-Party meeting be called.

Backdrop : Violence erupted in villages of Manipur between the dominant Mietisi community and hilly tribals of Kuku. Tensions began after  All Tribal Students Union Manipur organised  solidarity march in several districts demanding what they described as rights and constitutional safeguards. Arson and rioting ensued in days to follow with scores of churches torched and temples attacked.. At least, six people have lost their lives so far.
