Govt Intervention Pays Off : Malayali Students Stranded in Mangaluru Reach Kerala Safe

Web Desk‌Updated: Saturday Dec 21, 2019

MANGALURU : Following government intervention, Malayali students stranded in protest-stricken Mangaluru, returned to Kerala by KSRTC special buses Saturday evening. The buses that delivered scores of relieved students at Kasaragod hub, were sent earlier in the day to Karnataka, with heavy police protection.

Upon arrival, the students were welcomed by a warm reception led by Minister E Chandrashekaran.

The students became stranded in Mangaluru after the govt imposed curfew following two deaths in police firing on Thursday. Non-functional ATMs and suspended internet made it impossible for the students to head home

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held dialogue with top brass in Karnataka govt, asking to ensure safety of Malayali students and facilitate their return by specially sent buses from Kerala.
The five specially tasked KSRTC buses sent  off from Kasaragod hub today, aimed to fetch maximum number of students possible, including those stuck in hostels.

Similar arrangements will be made to fetch more students who might be stuck there, Minister Chandrashekaran told in Kasargod today.
