New Delhi : Gujarat goes to polls in two phases i.e. December 1 and 5, the Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced this noon at press conference in the capital. The results shall be declared alongside Himachal’s on the 8th.
Detailed Schedule :
Notification - Publication of notification for first phase on 5th Nov and for second phase on 10 Nov.
Nominations: Filing of nominations for phase I elections shall be 14 Nov and 17 Nov for phase II
Scrutiny: The scrutiny of phase I nominations shall take place on 15 Nov. For phase II papers, it is 18 Nov.
Withdrawal : Nominations for phase I polls may be withdrawn latest by 17 Nov. The deadline for phase II papers is 21 Nov.
Voting : Polling shall take place on Dec1 and Dec 5.
Results : Election results shall be out concurrently with that of Himachal Pradesh on 8 Dec
Backdrop : In Assembly elections of 2017, BJP recorded its all-time low mandate in 22-year rule in Gujarat. Congress allies bagged 99 of the 182 seats leaving BJP with just 80. Congress alone secured 77.
Now, 51,782 voters will cast their mandate across 51,782 polling booth in the state.
