Ahmedabad : In an unexpected development the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has tendered his resignation with just one year left for Assembly polls.
Given the stunning move, the ruling BJP is now left with three options - appoint a successor rehauling the cabinet, set the state under President’s Rule or hold state elections prior to schedule.
According to sources, Mansukh Mandaviya, who took charge as Union Health Minister in July and deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel would be mulled as replacement.
Although, the cause for resignation has not been divulged, close party circles view it as BJP’s “course correction” strategy when the party becomes wary of its state leadership.
