NEW DELHI: Close on heels of suggesting retaliation against India, US President Donald Trump did a U-Turn on Tuesday praising PM Narendra Modi as “great” after India reversed its position on exporting Hydroxychloroquine, the Covid drug, to America.
“I bought millions of doses. More than 29 million. I spoke with PM Modi, a lot of it comes from India. He was Great. He was really good. “ Trump said in a telephone interview to Fox News.
India treats its Covid infected people with anti-Malaraial drug ,hydroxychloroquine, found effective for coronovirus as also for its multitude of arthritic patients over time. Given surges of the virus in various parts of the country of late, the Centre became apprehensive of adequate stock for its own people and halted exports of the drug, except to hard-hit neighbouring countries. Barely hours into the ban, Trump called Modi Sunday and threatened retaliation if supplies to US were held back. Following this, the ban was relaxed on Tuesday and drug shipments from India are on its way to U.S.
