New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on BJP leader Nupur Sharma over her blasphemous remarks on Prophet Mohammad and turned down her plea for clubbing FIRs lodged in various states against her in the incident.
The remark was meant for cheap publicity, as political agenda or some nefarious activity; Nupur’s loose tongue set the country on fire, the Bench observed, adding that she must apologise to the country and further that she was responsible for the bloody incident in Udaipur, where a tailor Kanhaiya Lal was beheaded by two men for supporting her controversial remarks.
“She faces threats or she has become a security threat ? This lady is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country,” the apex court said.
The court also taunted at the immunity she enjoys. “When you file FIRs against others, they are immediately arrest. But when it’s against you, nobody dares to touch you,” the court said.
The mean streak betrayed by Nupur;s demeanor attracted fury of the Bench comprising Justics Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala. “ In a democracy grass has right to grow and donkey has the right to eat, ” the court said.
