New Delhi : MP John Brittas on Monday wrote to the Union Labour Minister calling for immediate implementation of Supreme Court judgment that orders paying of higher pension under the Employees Pension Scheme(EPS)
Arraying data, the letter said, at present there are 5,33,166 retired employees under EPS scheme. 6,79,78,581 people are live contributors to the scheme. Most retired employees are getting a pension of less than one thousand rupees. Rs. 4000 crores lie in inoperative accounts. As per official figures, the EPFO corpus fund as on March 31, 2022, is 18,64,136 crores of which Rs 6,89,210.72 crores is EPS share.
Taking into account the long drawn and agonising litigation the employees fought to obtain this verdict, the Labour Minister should issue strict instructions to EPFO for expediting remittances, said the MP in his letter.
The letter also pointed out how the Supreme Court of Nov 2022, categorically directed EPFO vide para 44(ix) of the judgment to comply with its order in eight-weeks time.
