KOLKATA : Hundreds took to streets on Sunday to protest Amit Shah’s rally in Kolkata, reacting to the Home Minister’s failure to have halted killings, arson and loot in the latest spate of violence that rocked Delhi. Protesters waved black flags and raised “Go Back” placards and banners along packed roads.
Demonstrations that began close to airport dotted roads en route Esplanade, where Shah addressed a massive BJP rally on Sunday. Slogans filled the air ranging from : Amit Shah, Villain of Delhi Killings ; No Place For You Here ; Wont Allow You To Destroy Bengal’s Brotherhood and so forth.
Demonstrations led by CPI(M) swept the streets of Entali Market, Shyam Bazar, Phulbagan, Colleg Street, Gariahatt, Jadhavpur, Bihal, Chaurastha, and Bidarpur, all through until the Union Minister left the State. Prominent Left leaders including CPI(M) Politburo member Mohammad Salim and party’s legislative assembly leader Sujan Chakravorty were on the forefront of these protests.
The protests were held under the aegis of SFI, DYFI, Democratic Women’s Committee and several other organisations.
