India COVID-19 : Confirmed Cases Exceed 2.15 Lakh, Deaths Over 6,000

NEW DELHI : The number of people who tested positive for the COVID-19 in the country crossed 2.15 on Wednesday and  deaths over 6,000. India now ranks twelfth globally on deaths related to  coronavirus-related complications.

 

There were more 200 deaths and over 9000 fresh cases reported on Wednesday. The average daily for  new cases now is above 8000  and deaths, 200. For the 6th day in a row, there have been over 217 deaths and 8909 fresh cases. 1,00,302 people have recovered from the virus so far. There are about 1,01,497 active cases around the country currently. The national recovery  and death rate stand at 48.31 and 2.80 percent respectively.

 

Cases in Maharashtra  crossed 75,000. The state has  recorded 2560 deaths so far, up by 122 on Tuesday total. Of these, 1417 fatalities were recorded in Mumbai alone, where the infections so far total to 43,492. In Tamil Nadu, the number of confirmed cases crossed 25,000. Chennai reported 1,012 cases on Wednesday while Gujarat recorded 485 new infections and 30 deaths in the day. Gujarat tally for COVID-19 cases is now above 18,000.

 

Other Covid Updates :
=> The number of districts reporting steep surges have now come down. 25 districts recorded rapid spike in fresh cases on 22 May while that number has  on 25 May, come down to 17.


=> 5 percent of aggregate samples nationwide have tested positive for the virus. Sambarvan district in Maharashtra recorded the highest  positive rates against tests at 44.4 percent.

=> The number of patients in Bihar and Uttarakhand are steadily rising.

=> Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL)  shut  its operations for two days after two of its employees tested positive for the virus.


=> At JIPMER in Puthucherry, 6 healthcare professionals including doctors were diagnosed with COVID-19.

=> Four resident doctors at  NIIMS Cardiology Specialty in Hyderabad are ill with the virus.


=> Four PG medicos at Osmania Medical College tested positive for coronavirus.
