COVID-19 : India Surpasses Italy With 2.35 Lakh Infections; 29,000 New Cases, 800 Deaths in 3 Days

NEW DELHI : With  total reopening  almost at threshold, India is witnessing huge surges in coronavirus infections  around the country, with pace and numbers now exceeding those of Italy. More than 9000 infections and 800 deaths were reported in the past three days alone. India now tops the chart among countries reporting highest single-day infection and death tallies. The aggregate of countrywide infections crossed 2.35 lakhs and deaths 6,600.

 

45,000 new cases and over 1,200 deaths were recorded this week, of which 29,000 infections  and 800 deaths pertain to past 3 days. 9851 people tested positive in the past 24 hours and 273 succumbed to the virus in that time. These numbers are the highest single-day spike in both fresh cases and deaths recorded so far.

 

 Meanwhile, 5355 people registered  full recovery in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said. A total of 1,09,462 recoveries have been recorded across the country since the outbreak first began in January. A worrisome scenario is emerging as Health workers in  increasing numbers are falling sick  with the virus.

 

5 Employees Test +ve; Home Ministry Closed

The Home Ministry closed down after five of its employees, including Directors and Under Secretaries were diagnosed with COVID-19, in a matter of one week. Following this, Delhi Nirman Bhavan too pulled down shutters. An official at DRDO, Delhi too has tested positive for the virus, and so has an Aam Aadmi MLA from Patel Nagar in the capital.

=> Delhi : 1330 New Cases , 25 Deaths

-> Gujarat :   510 New Cases, 35 Deaths
