New Delhi : India celebrated its 75 with grand annual parade in the heart of national parade at Rajpath, telecast live across the country and watched by millions .
The spectacular parade and 25 tableaux put into display the military strength, technological advances and cultural diversity. Back in 1950, the day marked the end of India’s link to the British empire and when the country’s first president, was sworn in. The ear also marks the day the India’s constitution came into being, making it a sovereign republic.
The celebrations were held amid tight secutiry and Covid mandates. The Prime Minister paid homage to soldiers who laid their lives for the nation at National War Memorial. Lt. General Vijay Kumar Mishra was the Parde Commander. Thousands from the armed forces marched before the president. The artillery fired gun salutes while the Liberator planes of Indian Air Force criss-crossed the skyline.
Governor Arif Mohamed offered greetings to Republic Day celebrations in state held at Central Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. Owing to huge Covid surges, general public were kept out of the event.
