New Delhi : The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) authorities cut power on campus Tuesday evening following information that a group of students were trying to organise screening of BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one that shows him in poor light.
Posters surfaced in JNU campus on Monday from JNU Students Union(JNUSU) announcing the screening of the documentary “India - The Modi Question” at 9 pm on Tuesday in the students’ union office. This was followed by a circular from Registrar to cancel that plan and further warned “strict disciplinary action” against anyone violating the instruction.
The students’ union however decided to go ahead with their plan and in its reply to the administration, stated that “screening of a movie/documentary is a voluntary action by the students who wish to watch the screening”.
Police teams took position outside JNU ahead of the scheduled time Tuesday evening. However, electricity in the campus was cut off shortly before the documentary would be screened.
