JNU Students March Begin; Protect Public Education, They Say

NEW DELHI :  Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) students commenced their previously announced protest march demanding roll back of  hostel-fee hike among other things

The parliament march is part of intensifying the students union(JNU-SU) protests against the mgt, for hiking fees. The protest in the initial phase  had seen authorities roll back the newly introduced curfew and dress code in the campus.

The march is aimed at protecting public education, said members of the JNU Students Union.

The march took off from the administrative block inside the campus and moved towards parliament, which has its  first day of the winter session today. There is heavy police deployment and barricading along the stretch.

Sec 144 has been clamped around the parliament.

The Rates
Mess Security Deposit of Rs 5500 earlier has been hiked to Rs 12,000.  At the hostel, single room rate has been hiked to Rs 600 room  a previous Rs 20 pm. Rooms accommodating more than 2 students, would be charged Rs 300 per person instead of Rs 10 pm earlier. Also, an introduction of Rs 1700 toward maintenance fund has irked the students further.
