New Delhi : MP John Brittas has been conferred with the Sansad Ratna Award for best parliamentarian. The award takes into account the performance of an MP in terms of questions in the House, private Bills, participation in debates, interventions etc.
The jury, headed by Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ram Meghawal, announced the award. Former Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishnamurthy was the jury co-chairperson. The Parliamentarian Award was instituted by former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The Award is given away by Prime Point Foundation.
John Brittas was the first among the three Rajya Sabha members named for the award. Brittas also hits the milestone of being chosen for the award in his first year as MP. Other recipients of the award are : Dr. Manoj Kumar Jha and Fauzia Tahseen Ahmed Khan.
Lok Sabha recipient to the awared are : Bidyut Baran Mahato, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Dr. Heena Vijayakumar Gavita, Athir Ranjan Chaudhary, Gopal Chinaiah Shetty, Sudhir Gupta and Amol Ram Singh Koli. Dr. Former MP TK Rangarajan has been honored with the APJ Abdul Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award. The Finance Committee of the Lok Sabha and the Transport Tourism Cultural Committee of the Rajya Sabha also received the award.
