NEW DELHI : Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has taken oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India today.
He was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Outgoing Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recommended Justice Bobde last month, the second senior-most judge of the apex court then.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman and former CJIs were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Justice Bobde will hold the helm for 18 months and is due to retire on April 23, 2021.
