Bengaluru : On fourth day after the massive landslide on national highway at Karnataka’s Shirur, there is no sign of Malayali trucker Arjun, a Kozhikode native, or the truck he was driving at the time. The lorry owner said Arjun’s mobile phone came switched-off. The GPS system shows lorry as being beneath the mud layers at the spot.
According to locals, there stood a tea stall at the site where landslide occurred and people from vehicles that stopped to have tea got swept in by the slide. The lorry owner described rescue operations as ‘slow’ despite four days now after the disaster.
Meanwhile, authorities are pursuing efforts to clear the highway and restore traffic movement. Arjun’s truck was loaded with timber. The lorry owner says, with glasses up mud cannot get into the cabin and Arjun might be hopefully alive.
