MUMBAI : Bringing the curtain down on month-long political uncertainty in Maharashtra, the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly began its session with a rare backdrop - without formation of a govt or appointment of the chief minister.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the governor  to conduct swearing-in of all the MLAs and Floor Test before 5 pm today.

Kalidas Kolambhar who was appointed Pro tem Speaker, administered oath of office to the MLAs. The Floor test is expected to take place after the ongoing session.

The governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari earlier invited Uddhav Thackeray, to form the govt comprising Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress and some other smaller parties. – the Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) front.

Thackeray will be sworn as Chief Minister in at 6.40 pm tomorrow, Thursday at Mumbai’s iconic Shivaji Park in Dasdar, a site insisted by Uddhav himself. The park is venue of the party’s annual Dussehra rally.

On the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony, Ajit Pawar, whose brief alignment with BJP hosted the 3 three-day Fadnavis-led govt, said he continues to be in his party, the NCP and there is no reason “to create” confusion about it.

“I have nothing to say. I will speak at the right time. I had said earlier too, I am in the NCP and I will remain in the NCP,” he said.

Meanwhile, as hectic preparations are underway for Uddhav’s chief ministerial oath-taking tomorrow,  the Shiv Sena is searching for suitable constituency to elect Udhav Thackeray as party chief from. Uddhav did not contest the election and is not a member of Maharashtra’s Lower House right now.

The Shiv Sena chief will be the first from the Thackeray family to become the chief minister.
