Nagpur: The two BJP-ruled states are head-to-head yet again over their border dispute. This time, Maharashtra has threatened to hit where it hurts most - snapping water supply to to Karnataka. Interestingly, the continued heated exchange comes despite Amit Shah warning against provocations, leaving the party and its seniors in awkward position.
In his statement, Maharashtra Chief Minister said, should Karnataka’s Basawraj Bommai continue to provoke on subject of border issue, his state will have to reconsider the current water provision from dams in Maharashtra.
Speaking with media at Vidhansabha complex in Nagpur, the Satara MLA Shamburaj Desay said March and April are dry seasons and it would do good for Karnataka to remember that farming there, depends on water from Mahrashtra’s Koyna and Krishna dams.
Backdrop : On Tuesday Karnataka CM Baswaraj Bommai asserted he would not cede even an inch of land to Maharashtra and directed to pass such resolution unanimously in the State Assembly. After the meeting summoning Chief Ministers, the Home Minister Amit Shah said he will not intervene in state affairs but asked CM on both sides to abstain from provocations.
