Malayali Tourists Found Dead in Nepal Resort; Gas Leak Suspected

KATMANDU : A vacation to Nepal proved tragic to a group from Kerala, after 8 of the 15 member died inside their resort rooms in Nepal.  Police suspect leak from the room heater that uses gas for fuel.

On discovering the people including four minors, unconscious,  the Indian Mission at the Embassy arranged for their airlift  to HAMS hospital in Kathmandu, where all  were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased were identified as Praveen Krishnan Nair(39), Saranya (34), Ranjit Kumar TB(39) Indu Ranjit (34). Sreebhadra (9) , Vaisnav Ranji(2) Abhi Nair (7) and  Abhinav (9)


The two couples and their four children who died were part of a group of 15 people who travelled from Kerala to Pokhara, a popular mountainous tourist destination. They were all on the way back, lodged up at Everest Panorma Resort in Daman in Makawnpur district on Monday night.


Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had condoled the deaths earlier in the day and issued  instructions to speed up procedures and make necessary arrangements , to reach the mortal remains back home.
