CHENNAI : In what appears to be premeditated heist, the Chennai-Mangaluru Superfast and Malabar Express fell prey to looters who made away with jewellery worth Rs 50 lakhs on Saturday.
Both trains were bound in same direction and the robberies took place between stretches of Tirupati and Kozhikode and Vadakara and Mahi.
Chennai native Ponnimarin was looted of gold worth Rs 25 while a Kananghad native had jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh snatched from him.
Police have launched a manhunt for the men, who they suspect belong to one gang that organized the twin loots.
