New Delhi: Several ministers in the Modi govt conduct themselves like sales managers, said CPI(M) Rajya Sabha party leader Elamaram Kareem. He was speaking opposing the vote of thanks speech rendered to President in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The govt is selling public sector units and their assets. It is destroying the country, said Kareem in the House.
The concerns of the public failed to find place in the President’s speech. Unemployment has become a major problem the country faces today. Over 1 crore people from the unorganised sector have lost their livelihoods during the pandemic. The continued escalation in fuel prices is raising costs of everyday commodities and plunging the public into deeper distress. Children are most vulnerable members in the crisis. The national survey indicates how malnutrition has become widespread among them.
Crimes against women and dalits are on the rise. There is denial of citizen’s rights and those guaranteed under democracy. Farmers have for months now been battling laws this government passed overriding long-established parliamentary procedures. The govt is trying to portray a tarnished image of the farmers and suppress their protests using force. The government is in the haste of appeasing corporates and promote its communal agenda, And, the president’s speech is an attempt to mask those efforts, said Elamaram in Rajya Sabha.
