New Delhi: The central government once again asked Twitter to de-activate 1000 accounts accusing their owners of spreading false propaganda and posting provocative messages relating to ongoing farmers’ protests.
The government also claimed the black list comprised twitter handles of users from Pakistan and Khalisthan. Incidentally, Twitter has not compled with govt request wholly.
On January 31st, the centre had made similar accusations urging Twitter to shutter 257 accounts. At that time, Twitter rushed to block users who pitched in support for “ModPlanningFarmerGenocide” hashtag. However, soon pressure mounted from protests over the move and Twitter eventually reopened the accounts.
Those taking to twitter handle on farmers’ protests included representatives from Kissan Ekta Morcha and Bharathiya Kissan Union Ekta Ugrahan. Twitter accounts of Kissan Sabha leaders too have been blocked out.
