Navi Mumbai: Case of missing 20-year-old girl in Navi Mumbai’s Uran is now a homicide, after police discovered her body hidden in thick undergrowth by railway on Saturday.
The girl, identified as Yashshri Shinde, was reported missing by her family on Thursday after she failed to return home after work. A tip-off around 2 am today led police to the spot.
The victim’s father, Surendra Kumar, named Dawood Sheih as the killer – the man who Yashshri had got into a relationship with. However, he is nowhere to be found and police have launched a manhunt.
Police believe the murder took place around 3:30 or 4 pm on Thursday, when she left work on a half-day. The Deputy Commissioner said the CCTV footage are being examined to ascertain the sequence of events that culminated in the murder.
The girl appears to have been stabbed in the stomach and to her back. Police await post-mortem report to know all ordeal the girl might have been subject to.
