THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : No my children do not eat mud from starvation, Sridevi told the reporters. She was responding to media news that her children resort to eating mud to beat hunger.
One of my children is in the habit of eating mud, that’s all. It is not from hunger, she said.
DYFI activists brought Sridevi’s case to the attention of Corporation authorities. She lived on the fringes of Railway land in Kaithamukku, with no home or income to speak of.
Corporation members led by Mayor K Sreekumar, discussed the situation and decided to provide Sridevi with a job in the sanitation wing there. The employment contract based on daily wages was handed to her at Poojapura Mahila Mandiram.

Sridevi will be allotted a flat in the upcoming Housing project at Karamana, the Mayor said.
Following the sensational but fake news that hungry children living on the wayside at Kaithamukku, ate mud from desperation, the Child Rights Commission had visited the place.
The Corporation is looking to rehabilitate 12 more homeless families living in the vicinity.
