Nashik : 22 covid patients died tragically after a leak in the oxygen tanker disrupted oxygen supply to ventilators for nearly 30 minutes. The accident took place at Zakir Hussain hospital in Nasik around noon, Wednesday.
Footage showed smoky gas leak from the tanker parked outside the hospital, envelope the area. Of the 80 persons in the hospital, 31 patients who are oxygen-dependent were shifted to a nearby hospital as efforts to plug the leak continue.
Ventilator failure is estimated as cause of death, said Nashik Municipal Commissioner. The Maharashtra government has called for detailed report into the incident, said Minister Rajendra Shingade.
Maharashtra faces the worst oxygen shortage among states. The state govt has urged the centre to send added supply for respite.
