NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court on Monday turned down a Public Interest Litigation seeking postponement of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) paving way to their conduct in September.
While observing concerns expressed on the prevalent coronavirus conditions, the Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra held that, deferring the two exams would put students’ careers into peril. “Should everything be stopped in a country? Why should a precious year be wasted like this ?” the court asked.
The top court was hearing petitions submitted by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava from 11 students from 11 different states that sought directions for the central govt to withhold JEE and NEET until Covid crisis passed.
The National Testing Agency(NTA )that scheduled the two exams in September had issued notification on July 3, announcing NEET UG exams slated for 13th September and JEE Main to commence from Sept 1 lasting up to 6th.
