Bengaluru : There are no plans underway to ban  SDPI and Popular Front, says govt in Karnataka. The remark comes amid outcry among Hindutva groups to prohibit the two parties from operating in state.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendran said the govt has not urged Centre yet to ban any organisation in the state. However, in view of recent incidents the govt is preparing a detailed report on SDPI and Popular Front for submission to the Centre.

To the query on Bajrang Dal worker Harsha’s mruder, Jnanendran said culprits have been nabbed and that the case will be handed over to NIA, once police complete their probe.

Harsha’s Murder : On the night of 20 Feb, in Karnataka’s Shivamogga, , Harsha Nagaraj, a Bajrang Dal activist was dining with his fiends at a local restaurant when there appeared a gang of four armed men who hacked him to death and fled the scene.   The incident triggered widespread violence and arson following which prohibitory orders were imposed ito restore normalcy. Police put the motive as rivalry between Hindutva and Muslim gangs in the area.
