New Delhi: People ran helter-skelter at Kabul airport as rounds were fired into air, reportedly by U. S. troops to prevent people from entering tarmac during its efforts to evacuate its personnel and civilians. Several were reportedly injured in the incident.
Following this, Air India cancelled its flight slated to lift stranded Indians in Kabul. There are over 1500 Indian citizens in Afghanistan who were issued instructions from the Indian embassy to leave the country as early as possible. Also cramming at the airport are Afghanis seeking to somehow flee the Taliban-takeover aftermath.
Context: Taliban marked complete takeover of Afghanistan on Sunday by seizing the presidential palace in Kabul ending America’s 20 year war together with NATO forces that hoped build up the security forces that would be capable of keeping insurgency at bay.
