Pegasus Snooping: Will Set Up Committee To Examine , Govt Tells SC; Downplays Allegations As “Baseless”

New Delhi : The union government submitted to the apex court that it will appoint an expert committee to allay misunderstanding over Pegasus snooping of citizens.

The government affidavit read : “This is highly technical issue, we will appoint eminent experts to examine all aspects.” The affidavit comes even as the top court was about issue notice in the regard to the centre on 16th of August.

The allegations are baseless. It is about people with vested interest kicking up controversies, the centre argued. Then why the experts committee to examine the matter, asked petitioners in their response

The centre has admitted to phone hacks back in 2019, said Kapil sibal, adding that the Centre should come out with truths behind.

Ten petitioners including members of  Editors Guild of India had petitioned Supreme Court seeking special investigation into hacking phones of citizens using Israeli spyware, Pegasus.
