New Delhi : BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy demanded explanation over use of Israeli spyware Pegasus to extract phone contents of targeted individuals in the country. Amit Shah should clarify if the central government has a connection with the malware-owning company failing which, the truth will become known like the Watergate episode and eventually hurt BJP, he said.
Pegasus was used to scoop phone contents of over 300 people in the country including union ministers, opposition party leaders and journalists. On the list of hacked numbers are a Supreme Court judge, 3 main opposition leaders, over 40 journalists, security chief, former chiefs, businessmen, scientists, human rights activists and several government employees. Union Minister Smriti Irani and Nitin Gadkari from anti-Modi faction too have been tapped.
Pegasus software is sold by company only to government agencies and those targeted are only persons resentful of the Modi-Amit Shah bond, thus pointing the finger of blame directly to central government.
A joint investigation by media majors - The Wire, Washington Post, The Guardian and Le Monde – titled “Pegasus Project” unearthed the shocking operation. Incidentally, the revelation on Sunday comes just one day ahead of Parliament Session slated today.
