New Delhi : An expert committee including technology experts will be set up to investigate phone hacking using Pegasus, the Supreme Court said on Thursday. An order in this regard will be issued next week, said Chief Justice NV Raaman.
The apex court is trying to form an expert committee on its own and approached several professionals in this regard. Some have excused themselves owing to personal issues, the reason why the committee formation is on delay, said CJ, The top court initiative comes over a batch of petitions seeking action against Pegasus hacking of private phones by government agencies.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had expressed deep discontent over central government’s response in the issue. With centre failing to submit the 2nd affidavit demanded by SC, the interim order is due to be out in two days time, the Bench said.
Senior journalists Sasikumar and N Ram, M P John Brittas and Union Minister Yashwant Singh too had pled with Supreme Court seeking investigations into phone hacking carried out using Israeli spyware, Pegasus.
